A disadvantaged community cannot thrive until its members are assured of adequate and reliable incomes. Jobs must be created and retained for both proprietors and their employees. Since its founding in 1971, ASIAN Inc. has strengthened the economic base of its constituency by providing management and technical assistance to a wide variety of small and no-longer-so-small Asian American and other minority businesses. ASIAN, Inc. adheres to a strict standard of integrity: all information supplied by the clients is maintained in confidentiality, and ASIAN Inc. takes absolutely no proprietary interest, direct or indirect, in any of the businesses served.

Over the years we have helped over 500 disadvantaged businesses obtain more than $50 million in business loans through partnerships with the City of San Francisco's Office of Community Development, the State of California, the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and many banks and other private lenders. ASIAN Inc.'s procurement clients have won more than 500 contracts worth nearly $150 million from municipal, state, federal, and private purchasing authorities.

Today ASIAN Inc. continues to assist Minority and Women owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs) gain access to procurement opportunities from the public and private sector. ASIAN Inc. works to maintain an open market for MWBEs by collaborating with the Council of Asian American Business Associations, and different trade groups (such as the Asian American Architects and Engineers, the Asian American Contractors Association) various community organizations, and government agencies to identify market barriers imposed by government policies.

Asian American businesses may also rely on several trade associations organized with ASIAN, Inc.'s assistance. Among them are:

• EBADP - East Bay Asian Design Professionals (under development)

The associations sponsor business opportunity events with the public and private sectors and advocate forcefully on Asian American business issues in order to enhance participation for their members. In particular, ASIAN, Inc. is actively involved in assisting small construction firms, both unionized and non-unionized, to obtain contracts with public agencies on an equitable basis. ASIAN, Inc. is also a founder and active member of the Coalition for Economic Equity, a citywide coalition of Asian (including Filipino and East Indian), African American, Hispanic and women-owned business associations.
