Mission and Overview

ASIAN, Inc., a nonprofit technical assistance and research organization incorporated in 1971, works to strengthen the infrastructure of Asian American communities in Northern California and to assist in their physical, economic, and social development. ASIAN, Inc.'s programs, though targeted primarily toward Asian Americans, are available to all on a non-discriminatory basis. Principal activities include:

  • Assisting in the development and growth of disadvantaged small businesses more...
  • Providing affordable housing for low-income families more...
  • Evaluating existing services and trends affecting Asian Americans more...
  • Initiating new social and economic programs to assist disadvantaged communities more...
  • Operating the CA Public Utilities Commission's Supplier Clearinghouse to verify the eligibility of Women- and Minority-Owned Business Enterprises seeking utility company procurement more...

The guiding purpose of ASIAN, Inc. is the empowerment of Asian American communities to achieve social equality and obtain full enjoyment of their material civil rights. ASIAN, Inc.'s role has been to provide the knowledge and economic base that helps communities develop, including research on demographics, law, equal employment, and education. Strategic information and technical assistance combine to improve the ability of Asian Americans to compete in mainstream society-obtaining housing and jobs for themselves, achieving success for their businesses, and participating in public decision-making.

To facilitate the development of independent leadership, and to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest, ASIAN, Inc. has no financial position or management influence in the businesses and organizations that it assists. We want to make sure that our clients, once started on the right path and with occasional advice on request, will be strong enough to succeed on their own!

We're able to provide expert guidance to our clients-whether it's helping define the real problems facing Asian Americans, shepherding a new program through the bureaucratic maze, or recruiting qualified problem-solvers-because we know the practical realities of a competitive business climate, a bad housing crunch, and mainstream indifference. In carrying out this work, ASIAN, Inc. employs a multilingual and multicultural staff of 20 with backgrounds ranging from economics and business administration to engineering and city planning.
