Position: Business Outreach Specialist

Reports To: Director of Business Programs

Department: Business Development

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 + benefits

FLSA: Non-Exempt

 

Summary of Position: Conducts community engagement activities and training to promote understanding and compliance with labor standards.  The Business Outreach Specialist at ASIAN, Inc. is responsible for promoting awareness and understanding of labor standards within the community. This role involves community engagement, development, and delivery of training programs, as well as managing media outreach efforts to ensure that information about labor rights and responsibilities is effectively communicated to Asian American businesses and workers. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for workers’ rights with excellent communication skills and a strong ability to connect with various community stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Community Engagement:

● Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, chambers of commerce, and other stakeholders.

● Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and meetings to promote labor standards awareness.

● Serve as a liaison between the community, businesses, and the Office of Labor

Standards Enforcement (OLSE), addressing inquiries and providing information and resources.

● Conduct outreach focusing on Asian American businesses and workers to ensure they are informed about their rights and protections under labor laws.

 

Training and Education:

● Develop and deliver multi-lingual training programs and educational materials on labor

standards, workers' rights, and employer responsibilities.

● Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements based on feedback and assessments.

● Stay updated on changes in labor laws and regulations to ensure training content is current and accurate.

Media Outreach

● Create and distribute social media content, newsletters, and other communication materials.

● Manage relationships with media outlets and serve as a spokesperson for ASIAN, Inc. on labor standards issues.

● Monitor media coverage and respond to inquiries from journalists and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Education, Social Work, or a related field.

Experience and Skills:

● Minimum of 3 years of experience in community outreach, education, or a related area, preferably in labor standards or workers' rights.

● Strong understanding of labor laws, workers' rights, and employer responsibilities.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse community groups.

● Experience in developing and delivering training programs and educational materials.

● Proficiency in using social media platforms and other digital communication tools.

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Language: Cantonese and/or Mandarin and Vietnamese speaking is required.

Physical Requirements:

● Multi-limb and eye-hand coordination

● Able to bend, stoop and lift up to 15lbs.

● Fast pace/multi-tasking with organization and efficiency

● Must be able to walk up and down 2 flights of stairs
